Live : Landing of Chandrayaan-2 on Lunar Surface

ISRO loses communication with Chandrayaan-2’s ‘Vikram lander’: Data being analysed

Ahead of Chandrayaan-2 historic landing, The Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) has begun live streaming of the Chandrayaan-2’s final descent, On Sep 7, at ISRO’s official You Tube Channel.. It is also being telecast live across 100+ countries, and many TV channels have taken the initiative to live stream the same event. Unfortunately, “The ISRO has ‘lost contact or communication with the Chandrayaan-2 lander’ minutes before it was to land on the Moon”.

An ISRO press conference which was scheduled to take place in a short while has been called off, leaving room for further speculation on Chandrayaan 2 mission.

In this regard, Our Scientists are currently analysing the entire data from the Vikram lander’s descent and is hoping to make contact with the ‘spacecraft’ in a best possible time manner.. This is Mission Control Centre. Vikram Lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km. Subsequently, communication from Lander to the ground stations was lost. Data is being analyzed, ISRO added.. However, The soft landing of Chandrayaan-2 Vikram lander on the ‘lunar surface’ was scheduled between 1:30 am to 2:30 am on Saturday, followed by the Rover (Pragyan) roll out between 5:30 am to 6:30 am..

Communication-Contact lost, data being analysed: ISRO

The ISRO chief K Sivan has confirmed that contact with Chandrayaan-2’s lander has been lost. Further, He mentioned that the ‘lander Vikram’ was descending on to the lunar surface as planned and that until 2.1 kilometres above the lunar surface, its performance was normal. But them, “lander to ground station was lost,”. “Data is being analysed.” The Chief asserted..

While an ISRO scientist stated that it was possible that the communications got snapped as the lander crash-landed, after losing control when its thrusters were switched off during its descent, another mentioned that all is not lost as far as the mission is concerned. “Only 5% of the mission has been lost – Vikram the lander and Pragyan the rover – while the remaining 95% – that is the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter – is orbiting the moon successfully,” an ISRO official told who did not want to be identified.

After ISRO lost communication with Vikram lander, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the ISRO that, “India is proud of our scientists! They’ve given their best and have always made India proud. These are moments to be courageous, and courageous we will be! Chairman ISRO gave updates on Chandrayaan-2.. We remain hopeful and will continue working hard on our space programme”. I congratulate you. You all have done a big service to nation, science and mankind. I am with you all the way, move forward bravely. The PM in a tweet.

Thus, I/We urge you all that,  please not to criticise such matter at any sphere because it contains multiple levels of technical formation regard the same mission. Although, The matter is likely to resolves by our imminent scientists. Hence, it is a time for ‘prayers and hope’, while our Indian scientists are doing a great job towards the country and our space technology at large. The country are very hopeful for this successfully landings, The Author remarked..

According to Indian Space Agency, “Rough breaking phase of Vikram lander has been begins and successfully completed”. “Fine breaking phase has also been completed successfully”.. It has three instruments to conduct surface and sub-surface science experiments, while Pragyan has two instruments to enhance the understanding of the lunar surface.

If everything goes well, This mission makes India the fourth country to soft land on the Moon after the Soviet Union, the US, and China.

It’s a long day of anticipation for K Sivan as the ISRO chief waits – like many others – with bated breath for Chandrayaan-2, India’s ambitious lunar mission, to land on the moon. Speaking to Media, He mentioned that, “Yes I have butterflies in my stomach. I’m sitting at ‘conversion desk’ looking at preparations. PM Narendra Modi will be watching and it will be a big morale boost.”

This is the second time Modi is witnessing an inter-planetary mission in 5 years at Istrac after watching India enter the Martian orbit in its first attempt on September 24, 2014 following a nine-month voyage by the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) or Mangalyaan to the red planet. K Sivan and senior space officials briefed Modi on the second lunar mission’s journey over the last 46 days since it was launched on July 22 onboard a heavy rocket from its spaceport at Sriharikota.

As per the official statement, “The Prime Minister has been keeping a track of all our missions, programmes and activities. The PM will witness live the descent of Vikram and its soft-landing when shown through telemetry signals on the giant computer screens or panels,”. After the landing, the PM greets the scientists and engineers and address them on the occasion. He also interact with about 70 young students ISRO has ferried them from across the country after selecting them in an online space quiz..

“Only 5 per cent of the mission has been lost – Vikram the lander and Pragyan the rover – while the remaining 95 per cent – that is the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter – is orbiting the moon successfully,” an official of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who did not want to be identified told IANS. HT reported.

“The Prime Minister, however, will not be staying to watch the six-wheel Pragyan roll out out of Vikram on a ramp for a stroll to study the lunar surface and conduct a few specific experiments,”. The 1,471-kg ”Vikram” has been named after Dr Vikram A Sarabhai, father of the Indian space programme. The 27-kg robotic vehicle Pragyan, which in Sanskrit means wisdom, will ride at a snail’s space for about 500 metres from the landing spot drawing energy from its solar panels, The Official read.

Significantly, The primary goals of this historic mission are to demonstrate the ability to soft-land on the lunar surface and operate a robotic rover on the surface. Scientific goals include studies of lunar topography, mineralogy, elemental abundance, the lunar exosphere, and signatures of hydroxy and water ice. Further, Moon provides the best linkage to Earth’s early history. It also offers an undisturbed historical record of the inner Solar system environment.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Twitter informed that, PM Modi was welcomed by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Union ministers DV Sadanand Gowda and Pralhad Joshi, as well as ministers of the Karnataka Cabinet and other officials. Meanwhile, City Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and the ruling BJP’s state unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel were among those who welcomed PM Modi on his first visit to the city after the parliamentary elections 2019.

About Pragyan Rover

In a short video, Isro explained about Pragyaan. The cubical vehicle, exclusively designed for travelling on the Moon, is fitted with a solar panel. The rover is a 6-wheeled, AI-powered vehicle named Pragyan, which translates to ‘wisdom’ in Sanskrit. Chandrayaan 2’s Rover is a 6-wheeled robotic vehicle named Pragyan, which translates to ‘wisdom’ in Sanskrit. It can travel up to 500 m (½-a-km) and leverages solar energy for its functioning. It can only communicate with the Lander.

About Orbiter

It will observe the lunar surface and relay communication between Earth and Chandrayaan 2’s Lander – Vikram. At the time of launch, the Orbiter will be capable of communicating with Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu as well as the Vikram Lander. The mission life of the Orbiter is one year and it will be placed in a 100X100 km lunar polar orbit. The orbiter will orbit the Moon at an altitude of 100 km (62 mi (Weight: 2,379 kg and Electric Power Generation Capability: 1,000 W), As per the official source read.

Launcher

The GSLV Mk-III (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark-III), has been completely designed and fabricated from within the country. It will carry Chandrayaan 2 to its designated orbit. This three-stage vehicle is India’s most powerful launcher to date, and it is capable of launching 4-ton class of satellites to the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Significantly, The 640-tonne rocket GSLV-Mk III, about 44-metre tall, popularly known as ‘Bahubali’ will carry the 3.8-tonne Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft. Sixteen minutes into its flight, the Rs 375-crore GSLV-Mk III rocket is expected to sling the Rs 603-crore Chandrayaan-2 into an Earth-parking 170×40400 km orbit.

Leveraging nearly a decade of scientific research and engineering development, India’s second lunar expedition will shed light on a completely unexplored section of the Moon – its South Polar region. This mission will help us gain a better understanding of the origin and evolution of the Moon by conducting detailed topographical studies, comprehensive mineralogical analyses, and a host of other experiments on the lunar surface.

Following the Indian space agency, The Moon is the closest cosmic body at which space discovery can be attempted and documented. It is also a promising test bed to demonstrate technologies required for deep-space missions. It attempts to foster a new age of discovery, increase our understanding of space, stimulate the advancement of technology, promote global alliances, and inspire a future generation of explorers and scientists.

Interestingly, GSLV-Mk III will be used for India’s manned space mission slated in 2022. Through this effort, the aim is to improve our understanding of the Moon – discoveries that will benefit India and humanity as a whole. These insights and experiences aim at a paradigm shift in how lunar expeditions are approached for years to come – propelling further voyages into the farthest frontiers.

Despite all of this, Chandrayaan-2, has also evoked great interest in International Media and Journals. According to Sputnik International, The total budget of this mission is about $124 million, which includes a $31 million price tag for the launch and $93 million for the satellite. “The total budget is less than half of the budget of Hollywood blockbuster “Avengers Endgame”, which had an estimated budget of $356 million,”.

Hope our scientists will find the Communication with Vikram lander as soon as well as possible, The data is right now being analysed by ISRO’s scientists.. Meanwhile, PM Modi is also giving pep talk to the scientists at ISRO centre on Sept 7. He is “asking everyone present to be courageous and hope for the best”.. “Congratulations-All the best to our Indian Scientists – related space agency for this mission (ISRO)”, Youth Darpan CEO, Trilok Singh remarked here.
