Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has registered a decisive victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by nearly 19,000 votes after 31 rounds of counting.
The win marks Kishor’s first electoral victory and ends the BJP’s uninterrupted hold over the Bankipur Assembly constituency, which the party had retained since 1995. The result is being viewed as a significant political development in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The by-election was held following the resignation of former Bankipur MLA and BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April.
