Dr. A Surya Prakash, Prasar Bharati Chairman remarked that, “Prasar Bharati has been given the responsibility of public service broadcasting, deepen the democratic traditions and provide opportunities to all diverse communities and cultures. He reiterated that Prasar Bharati will continue to strive to do that for the people”.

Significantly, Mahatma Gandhi ji had visited AIR studio to address displaced people from Pakistan who were temporarily settled in Kurukshetra, Haryana after partition of Indian subcontinent. It was his first and last live broadcast. In this broadcast, He had decided to convey his message through radio, as he couldn’t visit refugees of Partition stationed at Kurukshetra in Haryana.

Despite all of this, This day was instituted in 2000 as Jan Prasaran Diwas (Public Service Broadcasting Day) after it was conceptualised by Suhas Borker, Convenor of Jan Prasar. It seeks to spread Gandhi’s belief that aim of media was public service. Accordingly, he used to run several newspapers and understood power of media.

Wishing you All good health, knowledge, wisdom, Joy and love on the 550th Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev ji. And a very happy and contented “public service broadcasting day”. Youth Darpan, CEO, Trilok Singh.
