It includes techniques of Ashtanga Yoga, such as meditation, Pranayama and self-control.
In Indian philosophy, Ashtanga Yoga is the main means of controlling the mind. Thus, Sattvajay Chikitsa provides mental peace and balance through yoga and self-reflection. Sattvajay Chikitsa cures the root causes of mental disorders like anxiety, depression and stress. It reduces dependence on drugs and provides self-awareness and mental strength to the person.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, gives information about ‘Sattvavajaya Chikitsa’ along with the data related to mental disorders of the World Health Organization. According to the ministry, according to the World Health Organization, one in every eight people in the world is suffering from some mental disorder. The solution to this problem is found in Sattvavajaya Chikitsa, the ancient method of Ayurveda, which is considered to be the world’s first documented psychotherapy system. This therapy not only improves mental health, but is also beneficial in many other ways.
Charak Samhita defines Sattvavajaya as the process of keeping the mind away from harmful thoughts and desires. According to Ayurveda, the mind has three qualities: Sattva (peace, balance), Rajas (hyperactivity, excitement), and Tamas (laziness, darkness). Mental disorders arise when the influence of Rajas and Tamas increases. Sattvajaya Chikitsa controls Rajas and Tamas by increasing the strength of Sattva, which makes the mind calm and balanced.
Sattvajaya Chikitsa focuses on taking the mind in a healthy and positive direction. For this, regular meditation, pranayama and yoga asanas calm the mind and reduce stress. Satvik diet (fresh, pure and light food), regular routine and spending time with nature gives stability to the mind. It is also beneficial to turn the mind in a positive direction by keeping distance from negative thoughts, anger or anxiety. Not only this, the mind can also be calmed through spirituality.
