YouTube CEO donates 200K trees for “Team Trees initiative”

As per the recent report, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has announced that she is donating 200,000 trees for “Team Trees initiative” to YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson. According to Wojcicki, “Incredible to see the momentum of Team Trees and the power of the Youtube creator community raising money for Arbor Day,” alongside a video of her planting a tree outside of YouTube’s California headquarters.

MrBeast (Jimmy) officially announced the ”Team Trees” initiative, aiming to raise $20 million by the end of 2020, The Verge recently reported. MrBeast and YouTuber Mark Rober partnered with Arbor Day Foundation to raise the money and get the trees planted.

Earlier, multi-billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has donated $1 million worth of trees. Additionally, Twitter chief Jack Dorsey, too, donated money to plant 150,000 trees. YouTube has collected over $2.1 million, also, Team Trees official website stands at $8.9 million. As per the campaign’s website, one dollar is equivalent to one tree, and each tree will be “planted in a variety of forests on public and private land”.

Donations to Team Trees have come from prominent peoples such as Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

Despite all of this, Team Trees is a tree-planting initiative to combat climate change started by the YouTube star MrBeast. YouTuber MrBeast, whose real name is ‘Jimmy Donaldson’, launched the tree-planting campaign on October 25 to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers on YouTube. However, The idea initially came from one of his fans, who suggested he could celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers by planting 20 million trees.

Due to the sheer volume of trees planted (20 million), they will be planted in a variety of forests on public and private lands in areas of great need. Many of these forests will be state and national forests managed by government agencies. The goal is to plant trees on every continent not named Antarctica, the report remarked!
