Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan decked up for 4th swearing-in ceremony

This is the second time Narendra Modi takes the oath at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was sworn in by the then President Pranab Mukherjee in 2014 in the presence of over 3,500 guests including the heads of SAARC countries.

This is 4th time swearing-in being held in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The last three occasions were — Chandrashekhar in 1990, Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998 and Narendra Modi in 2014. On the north of forecourt is President’s Secretariat and on the south is Cabinet Secretariat.

From the south entrance, governors will arrive. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive from North entrance. After them, heads of states of eight counties will arrive.

President Ram Nath Govind will walk down the steps in the middle of the forecourt exactly at 7 pm flanked by President’s body guards. The steps lead to the entrance of Darbar Hall inside Rashtrapati Bhawan.

National anthem will be played after the arrival of the President. The swearing-in will start after that. After the Prime Minister, other members of his cabinet will take oath.

The President, Prime Minister and the cabinet will pose for a photo session. The President, PM and the heads of states will proceed for banquet.

Rajnath Singh: Rajnath Singh is a senior leader of the BJP and has served as the party president from 2005 to 2009 and 2013 to 2014. He had reached the zenith of state politics in 2000 when he briefly served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Amit Shah: Amit Shah, who contested 2019 general election from Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat, defeated C J Chavda of the Congress by a margin of over 5.5 lakh votes. Shah, known for his organizational skills, is credited for the BJP’s historic win in 2014 and 2019.

Nitin Gadkari: BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, who contested from Nagpur constituency in Maharashtra, defeated Nana Patole of the Congress by a margin of 2,16,009 votes. In 2014, Gadkari won the seat by a margin of 2,84,848 votes. He served as the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation in the first term of the Modi government.

DV Sadananda Gowda: BJP leader Sadananda Gowda served as the Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation in the Government of India in the Narendra Modi cabinet from 2014 to 2019. He won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bangalore North.

Nirmala Sitharaman: She is a member of the Rajya Sabha and she also served as the defence minister in the first term of the Modi government. She is India’s second female defence minister. She has served as the Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and the Minister for Commerce and Industry with independent charge.

Ram Vilas Paswan: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief served as the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. He has been an eight-time Lok Sabha member and former Rajya Sabha MP.

Narendra Singh Tomar: He outperformed Ramniwas Rawat of the Congress by a margin of 1,13,341 votes in Morena constituency of Madhya Pradesh. He served as the Minister of Rural Development, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Panchayati Raj and Mines in the Modi government.

Ravi Shankar Prasad: Ravi Shankar Prasad held the law and justice, and electronics and information technology portfolios in the first term of Narendra Modi government. Prasad, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Patna Sahib constituency in Bihar, defeated Congress’ Shatrughan Sinha by a margin of 2,84,657 votes.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur served as the Minister for Food Processing in the first term of the Narendra Modi government. Kaur defeated Amrinder Singh Raja Warring of the Congress in Bhatinda constituency of Punjab by a margin of 21772 in the 2019 general elections.

Thawarchand Gehlot: Dr. Thawar Chand Gehlot served as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the NDA Government. Currently, he represents Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.

S Jaishankar: Subrahmanyam Jaishankar served as the foreign secretary till 2018. He has also served as envoy to China in the past. Jaishankar, who is presently with Tata Group, is likely to be sworn in today.

Prakash Javadekar: Prakash Javadekar was given charge of the Human Resource Development Ministry in 2016 and was also the Minister State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and briefly held the portfolio of Information and Broadcasting.

Piyush Goyal: Piyush Goyal, who served as the minister of railways and the minister of coal in the Government of India in the recently concluded term of the Narendra Modi government. He was also the minister of state (independent charge) for power, coal, new and renewable energy (2014-2017) and mines (2016-17). He is a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Kiren Rijiju: He is the face of the BJP in North East India and was the MoS for Home Affairs in the previous Modi government. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he registered a massive victory from Arunachal West Constituency by winning the seat with a record number of votes.

Smriti Irani: Smriti Zubin Irani has had quite a journey from being a reigning soap star to the political ‘giant killer’ who defeated Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in his bastion Amethi. In the previous Modi Cabinet, Irani served three departments – Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Minister of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Textiles.

Rajyavardhan Rathore: Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd) has been an army man, an Olympic medallist, a politician and a Union Minister. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Jaipur (Rural) and was appointed as the Minister of State (MoS) for Information and Broadcasting in November 2014. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rathore defeated Congress� candidate and another Olympic medallist Krishna Poonia in the Jaipur (Rural) constituency by over 3 lakh votes.

VK Singh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Kumar Singh, who served as the minister of state for external affairs in the first tenure of the Narendra Modi government, was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Ghaziabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Singh outperformed Suresh Bansal of the Samajwadi Party by a margin of 5,01,500 votes.

Arjun Ram Meghwal: BJP leader Arjun Ram Meghwal defeated Congress’ Madan Gopal Meghwal in Bikaner constituency of Rajasthan by a margin of 2,64,081 votes. He had won the seat in 2014 by a margin of 3,08,079 votes. He served as the Union Minister of State in Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs in first term of Modi government.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi became Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs on 26 May 2014 in Narendra Modi government. After resignation of Najma Heptulla in 2016, he got independent charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan: BJP leader Harsh Vardhan served as a minister at Ministry of Science and Technology (India), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences in the first term of the Modi government. He won the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat, defeating Jai Prakash Agarwal of the Congress by a margin of 2,28,145 votes.

Dr Jitendra Singh: BJP leader Jitendra Singh served as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, and Department of Space. He won the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, outperforming Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress by a margin of 3,57,252 votes.

Anurag Thakur: He is the son of former CM of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal. The 44-year-old BJP leader defeated Congress’ Ram Lal Thakur from Hamirpur with a margin of 3.8 lakh votes.
