Devastating fire in Surat building kills 19 students

Today at around 03:30 PM, A devastating fire engulfed a ‘coaching centre’ in a ‘Surat’ based building in ‘Gujarat’ on May 24, killing 19-20, mostly students, (May the numbers increases). While some students jumped off the four-storey building in panic and died as they fell. Moreover, 16 persons died due to burns and 3 others from injuries after they jumped.

As per trend, The death toll in the tragic incident rose to 20, while 16 other students were injured. As many as 13 students of them were girls and 3 boys, while 4 others who were charred beyond recognition were yet to be identified.

Most of the coaching centre’s students are said to be between the ages of 14 and 17. “The fire started near the staircase, so they could not get down,” As per the Joint Commissioner of Police Harikrishna Patel asserted. Importantly, Officials were quickly take charge over the incident with possible equipments.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi expressed his anguish, “Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected,” he tweeted.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who ordered an investigation into the incident by Mukesh Puri, Principal Secretary, Urban Development, himself rushed to Surat. He also announced a financial help of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the students who died at the institute building. Many other leaders, including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, also condoled the death of the students.

As per Official inputs, The Fire Brigade sources has mentioned that 19 students were killed in the incident at the Takshashila Arcade building in Sarthana area. The authorities of the Surat Municipal Corporation were inquiring whether the building had taken the statutory permission, including regarding fire safety.

Hence, Following questions are now becomes great matter of concern in the wake of such incident, Who is responsible for such incidents? What about  the institution fire security or there is a completely management lapses? Why Fire Brigade team are so much late there? Lack of emergency gate exit?

It is very important for local authorities to find the reason behind above artificial fire incident in the state – to provide all possible assistance immediately. There is a dire need to investigate the incident at top priority, punish them those who are responsible for the same.

Despite all of this, According to a government official data, More than 17,000 people died in fires in 2015 alone, the last year for which figures are available, one of the largest causes of accidental death in the country. At the end, The Surat Municipal Corporation late in the night filed an FIR against three persons, including the builder of Takshashila Arcade in Sarthana area and the person who ran the coaching centre.
