Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026. He was later declared dead at 5:20 am at Manipal Hospital.
According to reports, Patekar was found unconscious at his Goa residence and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him through continuous CPR for nearly 45 minutes, but could not save him. Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital confirmed that a medico-legal case has been registered and that a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Patekar’s son, Malhar Patekar, was in Pune and was travelling to Goa following the actor’s death. A detailed statement from the family is expected.
Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar built a remarkable career spanning theatre, Hindi cinema and Marathi films. He was admired for his intense performances, powerful dialogue delivery and ability to portray complex and unconventional characters.

In a condolence message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had. Patekar made his film debut with the 1978 film Gaman and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Taxi No. 9211, Natsamrat and Yeshwant. His portrayal of gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 comedy Welcome introduced his distinctive acting style to a wider mainstream audience.
He also earned recognition as a filmmaker, directing Prahaar: The Final Attack. His contribution to Indian cinema was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.
Patekar remained active in cinema in his later years and was also seen in the comedy thriller Housefull 5. His death marks the loss of one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive and influential performers.
