Thanks to Faf du Plessis who smashed a blistering 67 not out (which also includes a massive 6 towards the end), Chennai Super Kings stormed into the finals of the Indian Premier League 2018. This win marks their consecutive third victory over a formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad who have awed one and all with their superb bowling performance through the league.
It was a match fitting the occasion. Both the teams rose to occasion, resulting in an edge of the seat match. Contrary to expectations, Sunrisers were bundled off for a rather average 139 runs at the end of the 2o overs. It seemed like their batting never came together. However, their impeccable bowling record once again lived things up as they sent a series of ripples among the CSK. Wickets kept falling consistently making it a very exciting see-saw contest. In the end however, CSK managed to cross over the line keeping SRH waiting.
The four teams which have made their place in the quarterfinals of IPL are Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It continued to be a bad season for the Delhi Daredevils who finished at the bottom of the points table.

Few odd things happened this IPL. Firstly, some of the biggest buys of the tournament failed to deliver the desired result while some very good bargains made some remarkable contribution for their side. Ben Stokes and Jayadev Unadkat, two of the most expensive players failed to do anything substantial for their teams. On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir gave up the captaincy in the middle of the season owing to bad form and even dropped himself from the team. Rashid Khan proved to be quite a find of the league. His googlies confused the best of players and he even claimed the wickets of cricketing biggies such as MS Dhoni.
