Court in J’khand sentences man to life imprisonment for killing panchayat head

A court here has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a panchayat head in Gumla district six years ago.

Yakub Lakra, who was the head of Moreg panchayat, was shot dead in Basia block of the district in November, 2013.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Suraj Bhusan Ojha, sentenced 31-year-old Vimal Kindo to life imprisonment on Wednesday and fined him of Rs 7,000.

Two others accused in the case, Tileswar Sahu and Umesh Sahu, died during trial, while another accused, Deepak Naga, was acquitted for lack of evidence.

According to the FIR, Lakra had refused to budge under pressured of not to become a witness in a case and this led to his killing.
