Bihar Chief Minister Mr Nitish Kumar on June 14 launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Vriddha Pension Yojna’ (MVPY) for poor people above 60 years of age in the state.
Moreover, Poor people above 60 years of age will get Rs 400 per month and those above 80 years will get Rs 500 per month. Notably, The above scheme, which is effective from April 1, 2019, will not cover retired government employees.
Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar argued the state government had created a special fund of Rs 18,000 crore for the scheme which “will give the elderly poor respect and dignity”. So far, 2 lakh people have applied online for the pension and the government expects the applications to go up to 35 to 36 lakh.
Despite all of this, Currently old age pension scheme is applicable to only the BPL category. The Chief Minister also announced a pension of 6,000 rupees for journalists above 60 years of age.
Those who have been in regular service in the field of media and not getting any other pension will be eligible for Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana (BPSY). The CM told this scheme will also be implemented from the 1st of April this year.
