“Teachers should be the best minds in the country”
-Dr Radhakhrishnan.
According to the Buddhist religion, ‘teachers hold the position of same importance as parents. It’s said that parents give birth and teachers nurture’. In the Indian society and culture teachers are given the status of Gods. In India Teacher’s Day is celebrated on 5th of September as a tribute to the contribution made by the teachers towards the students and society.
Historically, the day commemorates the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan, a great teacher and a staunch believer of education, known for his contribution towards the ‘education system of India’. He argued that, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if ‘September 05’ is observed as Teachers’ day in India”. Since then 5th September is observed as Teachers Day throughout India.
The doctrine of celebrating teachers’ day is changing every year. In changing time, “most of the teachers have become just a means to complete the syllabus in exchange for a salary”.
The Study and Classroom is quite like a mother’s womb and everyone should give preference to education, that education will provide knowledge and Teachers should teach the knowledge, charity and integrity to the students and the public at large. They should learn to educate students with logic and the scientific ideas and thought process with which they grow up.. Teachers’ role is crucial in shaping students and the society..

There is no need for anyone to teach India about the issue of tolerance, since it has been a period of tolerance in Indian culture. Everyone should remember their mother, birth-place, mother tongue and the motherland. The Vice President urged everyone to save nature. In India, Every year on Teachers’ Day, the government should announce a policy for the improvement of education and teaching standards as well. In our rich Indian Culture, teachers are considered as a friend, philosopher and guide.
Notably, Celebrating Teachers Day is also acknowledged by UNESCO and fairly popular in several countries across the globe. The Indian tradition of celebrating teacher’s day is quite old custom. This occasion is observed on different days in different countries respectively. In India it is celebrated on 5th September whereas in UK it is marked on 10th September.
In this day most of the colleges, schools and institutions make elaborate preparations for the occasion of Teachers Day. Students try several other innovative ways to celebrate the day. The day usually starts with a warm Teachers Day speech to thanks the teachers for their contribution. Some institutions also allow their senior students to pose as teachers for the day and take lessons assigned to the teacher they represent. Performing religious activities such as Guru Vandana or prayers dedicated to teachers are very common..
Students look forward to Teacher’s day with great enthusiasm and zeal due to the sheer spirit of the occasion. On this day students realise what it means to be a teacher and what responsibilities a teacher bears when it means to control the future of several students. Teachers on this day are reminded of their school days when they were at the student’s desk and feel nostalgic. In short, Teachers Day is another way to provide encouragement and support to the teachers to make them feel their devotion towards students is appreciated.
We honour our beloved teachers who for their selfless effort towards shaping the future/carriers of their young minds and elevating the education system of India as a whole/public. It also holds immense relevance for every individual throughout the country. Teachers impart knowledge and motivate the students in the very right direction, enlighten them and create responsible citizens and good human beings. All of us have been students someday and have benefited from our teachers. Celebration of teacher’s day is a wonderful opportunity to show our gratitude to our teachers..
