A 24-year-old youth was critically injured after sustaining multiple bullet injuries when a gang of four to five armed assailants allegedly fired over a dozen times targeting him in Rohini in what is being termed as a gang war by the authorities, the police said on Saturday.
The victim, who has been identified as Manish, is a resident of Khera Khurd village and was travelling in his Hyundai Accent car with three of his friends in Sector 11, Rohini, on Friday evening. The accused persons allegedly intercepted Manish’s car from the front, blocking the way with their Maruti Swift car.
The accused then stepped out of their vehicle and started firing indiscriminately. Manish managed to escape from the car but the assailants chased him down and fired at least 17 bullets targeting him. They escaped from the spot after Manish collapsed on the road.
The entire chain of events was captured in a CCTV camera.
“Manish suffered four bullet injuries on his legs and abdomen. He is undergoing treatment in Fortis Hospital,” a senior police officer said.
“Luckily, none of the bullets hit the children playing outside their homes in the area. Prima facie it appears to be a case of personal enmity between two rival gangs. We are probing the matter and trying to identify the accused persons with the help of the CCTV footage,” the officer said.
