As you know that, Goa CM Manohar Parrikar Ji passed away at his private residence on March 17 evening after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. He was just 63. “During the period of state mourning, the tri-colour will fly at Half Mast on all the buildings throughout the State of Goa where it is regularly flown and there will be no official entertainment,”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweet paid tributes to Manohar Parrikar. “Paid tributes to my friend Shri Manohar Parrikar. He personified humility, simplicity and compassion. The good work he has done will be remembered for years to come,” PM Modi said in the recent tweet.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Smriti Irani gets emotional as she pays last respects to Goa CM. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh added that he used to meet Manohar Parrikar occasionally when the Goa CM was a minister in the central government. Rajnath Singh mentioned that Manohar Parrikar used to say that despite working in the government, he felt that his heart was in Goa.

Notably, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s final rites were more important than a government formation, the coastal state’s BJP unit mentioned today, even as ongoing negotiations between allies and BJP leaders, including Nitin Gadkari and the party’s National Secretary B.L. Santosh, have appeared to hit a roadblock.
However, Emerging from a night-long meeting with Gadkari, Santosh other state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, Goa Forward MLA Vijai Sardesai said the discussions were inconclusive, even as party MLA Michael Lobo claimed that former PWD Minister and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Sudin Dhavalikar has laid claim to post of CM.

Michael Lobo, Goa Deputy Speaker and BJP MLA: Sudin Dhavalikar (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader) wants to become the Chief Minister. He argued that he has sacrificed many times by supporting BJP, he has put his demand but BJP will not agree to that.
Thus, “Dhavalikar wants to become Chief Minister. He has put his demand. That is being worked out. Dhavalikar argued that he had sacrificed many times by supporting the BJP. But the BJP will not agree his demand.” Lobo that the BJP has shortlisted Vishwajit Rane and Pramod Sawant for the post of Chief Minister.
Following the trend, In his brief interaction with the media, Dhavalikar did not confirm about his pitch for Chief Ministership, but said that he would meet BJP leaders again soon following discussions with the state executive committee of his regional party. “Nothing has been decided yet… Whatever decision the MGP takes, we will have to take a resolution of the executive committee and give it to them,” Dhavalikar said.
Goa government in a statement said that, “Government of Goa expresses profound sorrow on the sad demise of Manohar Parrikar. The CM of the State of Goa on Sunday (March 17). As a mark of respect for the departed dignitary seven days state mourning will be observed throughout the Goa from March 13 to March 24.”
On March 17, Core committee meeting is underway to take decision on chief minister position in Goa. The meeting began after the demise of Manohar Parrikar. Centre has announced national mourning on March 18, following demise of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. State funeral will be accorded to him. National Flag will fly at half-mast in the National Capital & capitals of States & UTs.
IIT Bombay condoles alumnus Manohar Parrikar’s demise
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay paid tributes to Goa CM Manohar Parrikar, an alumnus of the institute. Remembering the late leader, the institute said, “Goa Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar’s demise comes as a shock to all of us at IIT Bombay. He was the Institute’s Distinguished Alumnus and keenly involved with many initiatives at IIT Bombay.
He was also deeply involved with the launch of IIT Goa. He was the Chief Guest for the 55th Convocation of IIT Bombay held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10.00 am at the Institute’s Convocation Hall. The Institute condoles his demise.
The Institute had felicitated its Distinguished Alumnus Mr. Manohar Parrikar, former Minister of Defence, Government of India, who graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from the Institute in 1978, “In recognition of his contribution to the Development of the Country,” on the Alumni Day in 2014.”

The condition of Parrikar, diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in February last year and in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and New York since then, had turned “extremely critical” on Sunday, the Chief Minister’s Office tweeted earlier in the day. President Ram Nath Kovind expressed his grief.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Congress party leaders observed a two-minute silence at a public rally in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, to pay last respects to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who passed away Sunday night.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Goa CM, Shri Manohar Parrikar Ji, who bravely battled a debilitating illness for over a year. Respected and admired across party lines, he was one of Goa’s favourite sons. My condolences to his family in this time of grief,” tweeted Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, “My condolences to the bereaved family of Shri. Manohar Parrikar. I met him only once, when he graciously visited my mother at the hospital two years ago. May his soul rest in peace.”
Thus, Thousands of citizens and party workers of the BJP arrived at Kala Academy in Panjim to pay their final tributes to Parrikar. A six-time MLA representing the state capital, Parrikar never lost an election in his constituency. During his first term as chief minister in the early 2000s, Parrikar focussed on developing infrastructure in the city keeping in mind internation events that he later introduced to the state.
The first Bharatiya Janata Party leader to be Goa Chief Minister, Parrikar headed the state from 2000-05 and 2012-14, before joining the Narendra Modi government as Defence Minister from 2014.
Following the reports, He returned to state politics in 2017 to lead a coalition government headed by the BJP and continued in office despite his protracted illness and amid criticism from the Opposition and civil society, which had repeatedly demanded his resignation on health grounds. A widower, Parrikar is survived by his two sons, Utpal and Abhijat, their wives and a grandson.
The Goa Forward Party, an alliance partner in the state’s BJP-led government, Monday said a stalemate persisted on the selection of the next chief minister following the death of Manohar Parrikar, PTI reported.
The GFP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s three MLAs each, an equal number of Independents, and BJP legislators have been meeting since late Sunday night to reach a consensus on Parrikar’s successor.
“The stalemate over the issue (next CM) continues,” GFP chief Vijai Sardesai said. He said he, along with other coalition partners, had raised certain apprehensions with Gadkari but was yet to get answers on them from the BJP, The Indian Express reported. The battle over who will be the next chief minister of the state continues even as Raj Bhawan gears up for a swearing in ceremony.
While BJP Goa chief Vinay Tendulkar claims all is well with the allies – MGP and GFP – the allies say there is no consensus on a CM candidate and any such talk was premature. President of the Goa Forward party Vijai Sardesai said that several issues were discussed during the meeting, but there was no uniform agreement on every aspec.
Both the BJP allies – Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Forward Party – are demanding the post of deputy chief minister. Indications now are that the BJP may be forced to oblige both. The BJP has 12 seats and the allies have 3 each. The Congress has 14 seats etc.. Thus, It is going to decide that who will be the next #Chowkidar (CM) of Goa shortly.
Consequently, Pramod Sawant to be new Goa Chief Minister and Sudin Dhavalikar and Vijai Sardesai to be the Deputy Chief Ministers. Swearing-in to happen tonight, the reports suggest. Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is holding parleys with the stakeholders. The BJP had been trying to thrash out a consensus among it allies on the choice of the chief minister candidate.
Pramod Sawant to be new Goa Chief Minister
Next Goa chief minister to be sworn-in tonight at 11pm. Earlier, BJP president Amit Shah said his party is holding discussion with its allies in Goa to decide the new chief minister and will soon meet the governor to stake claim to form government. The BJP president also met local party leaders in a star hotel here along with Union minister Nitin Gadkari. Pramod Sawant’s late night swearing-in ceremony is aimed at beating Goa governor Mridula Sinha’s midnight deadline to have a chief minister with a government in place. Else she would have had to place the state assembly under suspended animation and recommend President’s rule.
