West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s office on Thursday said they are coordinating with various district authorities on formulating contingency plans ahead of cyclone Fani.
“There is a contingency plan in place for every district administrative officer regarding the safety of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) warehouse, movement of polling personnel and vehicles,” Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Basu told reporters.

He said the District Electoral Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to review all the plans regarding preparedness so that it can be implemented at the right time.
“All sorts of infrastructure measures in case of polled EVMs kept in the strong rooms and the EVMs that will be used are being taken,” Basu said.
The DEOs will have to submit a report to the state CEO by May 3. The office is in touch with the state government for the required safety and security measures.

Asked if the CEO office is taking any special measure for Barrackpore parliamentary constituency after reports of violence, he said: “All complaints are being considered with equal importance and required measures are being taken.”Barrackpore will go to the polls on May 6.
He said all booths will be managed by the central forces. The CEO has also sought a report regarding a jawan posted on duty opening fire in Howrah district.
Assam Rifles jawan Lakshmikant Barman, who was on poll duty, fired 13 rounds at the camp in Bagnan, killing one and injuring two others.
