Driver lost control: 14 die as bus falls into gorge in J&K

Fourteen people were killed and 16 others injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, police said on Saturday. While 11 people died instantly in Mandi area after the disaster, three critically injured passengers succumbed to their injuries in a hospital.

Three other seriously injured passengers have been flown to Jammu College Hospital for specialized treatment. The accident reportedly occurred when the driver lost control over the bus. Senior officials rushed to Mandi to supervise relief and rescue operations.

Six critically injured passengers were airlifted to the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu where one of them died. Ms. Mudgal told The Hindu that the administration had given an immediate relief of Rs. 10,000 to the families of the deceased and Rs. 5,000 to the injured.
