Popular Hindi author Namwar Singh dead at 92

He had contested and lost the Lok Sabha elections as a Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate in 1959 from Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh.

Much acclaimed Hindi author-critic Prof. Namwar Singh passes away in New Delhi at 92 year, a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award (1971)!! Following the family source, Prof. Singh died on Tuesday night at the All India Institute of Medical Science’s Trauma Centre.

Meanwhile, Writer-journalist-editor Om Thanvi said that Singh’s cremation will take place on Wednesday at the Lodhi crematorium. “The Hindi literary world has plunged into darkness. Noteworthy thinker and a harbinger of Hindi literature passed away,” he mentioned.

Namwar Singh held a Ph.D from the Banaras Hindu University, where he also began his teaching career. He was the first chairman of JNU’s Centre of Indian Languages retired from the university in 1992 but continued to remain as a ”professor emeritus.

Despite all of this, Considered a living legend of Hindi literature, he has authored over a dozen works prominent among them are ‘Kavita Ke Naye Pratiman’, ‘Chhayavaad’ and ‘Dusari Parampara Ki Khoj’ among others.
