Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiative and Rural Development donates the cheque of Rs 32 lakhs to KVIC

Khadi once again won the accolades from Vice President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, on Monday, when he visited the exclusive stall of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at Ambedakar International Center, before chairing the Commemorative Event of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, organized by FICCI – Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence.

KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena welcomed him with the shawl and momento there. At the function, the Vice-President also handed over a cheque of Rs 32 lakh to the KVIC Chairman. The Cheque was given as donation by the Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence, for providing Charkhas to more than 200 artisans’ families.

Later, addressing the function, Shri Naidu said that for Gandhiji, Khadi was not just a political icon or a symbol of national pride, it was also a way to empower the rural economy. “Today we see a disturbing trend of distress migration from rural to urban areas. Our rural economy is weak and fails to provide enough opportunities for livelihood. It is time India honors the Mahatma’s wishes and goes back to its villages. Real growth will happen in India when we are able to empower rural India, especially our farmers, our weavers and our craftsmen,” he said.
