TRILOK: Chhath Puja As An Our Family Reunion, Stop Politicisation of Hindu Festivals

TRILOK.ORG.IN: As we know that, Chhath Puja, the historic and archaic festival is basically celebrated in the North-Indian states of India. This festival is triumphed with great sovereignty and enthusiasm and is dedicated to Lord Surya-Sun God and Chhathi Maya ( Lord Sun’s Wife). Moreover, Since a week, I have been listening to Chhath songs only due to our family and my faith, Culture/Society at large. I believe that these songs have a magical healing power because whenever I/we listen to these songs, I/we get lost in some other world. Nowadays, it is celebrated across India and in many parts of the world like Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, USA, Australia etc..

Significantly, All the good memories flash in front of my eyes. For a Bihar, Jharkhand and UP Community, Chhath Puja More Than Just A Festival! No matter who we are, what are we doing, where we are; this is the festival that makes us leave everything and head towards our native village or built as a village environment in urban cities. No other festival has more importance than Chhath for us.

However, This festival is considered to be the most eco-friendly Hindu festival because all the things that are used in rituals are obtained naturally. All the rituals are performed on the banks of the rivers or other water bodies. Most items used in Chhath are close to nature. For example, the ‘daura’ and ‘soop’ used in rituals are bamboo products which are bio-degradable. with the same light, use of synthetic material is restricted which makes it eco-friendly, automatically.

Also Rituals Include: Holy bathing, Fasting and Abstaining from drinking water (Vrat), standing in water for long periods of time, offering Prasadam (prayer offerings) and Arghya (commodity offering) to the rising and setting sun. Also Surya, considered the god of energy and the life-force, is worshipped during the Chhath festival to endorse well-being, prosperity and progress. In Hinduism, Sun worship is supposed to cure a variety of diseases, including leprosy, besides ensuring the longevity and prosperity of family members, friends and elders.

In a contemporary scenario, we can say or saw that the ‘Politicisation of Hindu Festivals’ are becomes important for the current regime of hindutva politics or so called right wing politics/waves. With the same light; many political and cultural experts told me that now Hindu festivals, Hindu Faith and the Culture of Hinduism are marked for a larger Sangh privar Agenda. Now, Selfish politicians are deriving political benifits out of Hindu Festivals too.

More Specifically, the Rashriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was formed, a kind of nationalist volunteer corps which today is the parent of groups including the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the national political party called BJP too. Together known as the Sangh Parivar, they champion the cause of Hindutva in India. Fanning false insecurities among the majority community about non-Indic religions, these groups have sharply communalized large sections of society.

Trilok SIngh: As we aware that, In 1992, a mob of Hindus demolished the 16th-centiry Babri mosque in the northern city of Ayodhya, claiming it as Lord Ram’s birthplace. Sangh Parivar’s biggest leaders condoned it. It resulted in months of Hindu-Muslim riots all over the country that killed about 2000 people. Again in 2017, Ram or Ayodhya becomes important for serving the contemporary political tools of BJP the RSS..

While in the Mahabharata, there is a poem where Draupadi and the Pandavas, rulers of Indraprastha (modern Delhi), are depicted observing rituals similar to Chhath puja on the advice of noble sage Dhaumya. Through Draupadi’s worship to the Sun God, she was not only able to solve her immediate problems, but also helped the Pandavas reclaim their lost kingdom. Chhath Puja also has roots in science too. i.e., it helps the human body get rid of toxicity.

Here, our motive is to aware Indians about their culture and traditions with the same regard and others who are eager to know about Indian culture. However, We are also trying to help web developers by posting solutions for common technical problems encountered during web development and development environment setup, also planning to post Sanskrit and web development tutorial from scratch and present our views about trending social issues…

Yes we believed that, Chhath Puja may even predate the ancient Vedas texts, as the Rigveda contains hymns worshipping the Sun God. Also, there are many references to the rituals in the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana too. Unfortunately, we found that not only BJP while many political parties are highly busy with Hindu Festivals to serve own political interest only, not to serve society at large. So, Please stop “Politicisation of Hindu Festivals” it is our Family Reunion, Culture/Society at large. Still, we hope for the best from current form of government, India. Thank’s.
