Last day tips
“The half of the day is already gone now. The students should relax a bit. At the moment, something that needs urgent attention but you have left requires to be given one hour of reading; otherwise it is best not to do any intense reading or memorizing activity on the last day. You should wind up preparation.
The second thing is, in the evening the students should take out five to seven minutes and visualize the actual day of the exam: how they are making decisions, how they are going to the examination hall – every aspect of the examination day should be covered in the process. This is just a good way to use what is going to come tomorrow.
The third thing is that the students should get a good night sleep. Even if they can or cannot, the objective is proper rest when they are going for the exam.

Don’t mess up with OMR sheet
Beside, there is just a few things like they should not mess up with the OMR sheet. It should be filled properly and neatly.
Recce of the centre
Beside the examination activity, the students should do a recce of the examination centre. If they have physically visited the centre, they should at least Google the centre and the road they are taking to the centre. The centre may be a primary school or a secondary school, they should know about the seating arrangements hence a proper research.
Be stress-free
If you have not visited the centre or don’t know where is it, it is going to be a stressful situation in the morning and tomorrow you don’t want any stress.
Everything should be planned. Some centres will show you the benches. You have to make sure that the mindset is well protected. These are essential tips for the examination.
The key is, students should go with the objective of all the knowledge they have at their disposal and in a most optimal way.
Now for the exam
The exam will happen in two shifts as it has two papers. First paper starts at 9:30am and the second paper starts at 2:30pm – both are of two hours. You must be present in the examination hall half an hour exam ahead of schedule, otherwise, you won’t be let in.
The Paper I is GS (General Studies), consisting of 100 questions of 200 marks. Paper II is also called general studies, but students generally call it CCET, which is actually a aptitude test, which will be of 80 question of 200 marks. Last year, the general category cutoff was 105.3.
Paper I is only counted for the cutoff, based on which you qualify for the main exam. Paper II, which is only qualifying, you need to score 66 marks out of 200. Based on your paper I score, you get selected for the mains.
Skin through the paper
It’s essential to quickly skin through the paper. The first thing should be to check any physically damage to the paper. If the paper has any torn pages, you can return it to the invigilator and get another one. Make sure that the question paper is intact. Then check what sort of the questions are there and then start attempting it. Do not spend too much time on reading this. Just get a fair idea to plan out the execution part. You can start attempting history question first or the subject you are good at – that totally depends on the student.
You can choose to attempt the questions you are comfortable with just to warm up!
Carry photographs
Students should carry two photographs. In UPSC exams, the examiner will come to you with a form, which you have to sign, so if your photograph is not clear, you need to give another photo to the examiner.
Carry whitener
Carry a black ball point pen for filling the OMR sheet. Take the pen you have used for a couple of times. Also, you can carry a whitener, but a whitener can be used sparingly and at your own risk. Moreover, whiteners are allowed in the examination hall; some students have used it without any problem.
No gadgets
